From adding new building material to changing the core mechanics, mods are a wonderful way to improve your experience while playing 7 Days to Die. Mods are supported natively and as such, installation is very easy on both your client and your server. This tutorial will walk you through installing mods onto both.
Downloading your Mods
Locate and download the mod that you would like to install. We highly recommend using 7daystodiemods.com to accomplish this. Please ensure that you are downloading a mod for the correct version of the game!
2. Locate the download button from the lower section of the website and click download.
3. Once downloaded, unzip the file to retrieve the mod folder containing the ModInfo.XML file. You will need a file archiver utility tool to extract the file. We recommend WinRar.
Installing Mods Locally
Before you can connect to your modded server, you will need to install the mods locally. Ensure your game is shut off during this process.
Locate your 7 Days to Die game files. You can do this by right-clicking the game in your Steam Library and pressing Manage > Browse local files.
2. Create a folder called "Mods" if it does not exist, and enter that into the directory.
3. Copy your previously-extracted mod folder into this Mods folder. Your ModInfo.XML file should be located at 7 Days To Die/Mods/[ModName]/ModInfo.XML.
Congratulations! You've successfully downloaded mods locally. Now we will proceed to the server portion.
Installing Mods onto Your Server
Stop your server.
2. Navigate to your server's FTP. We recommend using FileZilla to do this.
3. Create a folder called Mods if it does not exist, and enter that into your servers main directory.
4. Upload your previously extracted mod folder into this Mods folder. Your ModInfo.XML file should be located at Mods/[ModName]/ModInfo.XML.
Now you’re done! Start up your server, and confirm that all the mods were successfully loaded by joining your server.
